Governor Roy Cooper and his staff announced that social distancing is intended to lower the Covid-19 infection curve across the state.

Last week, Governor Cooper issued Executive Order 131 outlining requirements for grocery stores and large retailers to protect employees and customers from contracting COVID-19.

As we are still going through the worst phase of the plague (the peak of the ‘curve’), we visited local grocery stores in the Ardmore area and rated them 6 points:

Bonus/negative points: One way to encourage social distancing. Since grocery stores have limited space, not all can serve one-way routes. We gave a bonus point to those who have the ability to implement it and a negative point to those who have the space/ability not to.

This rating is completely unbiased and based on in-store observations. The purpose of these checks is to inform the public about which stores are taking action to protect their customers and employees.

Both Harris Teeters do at least the basic job of placing “Stand Here” stickers on the floor. Social distances are smaller. No further explicit attempts are made.
